Abu Dhabi - MENA Herald: Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure and raising awareness on quality standards in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, has unveiled the Unitary Air Conditioners Certification Scheme defining minimum energy performance standards and technical requirements for unitary air conditioners used across villas, apartment buildings and office buildings in Abu Dhabi.

The scheme aims to enable manufacturers, suppliers and distributors of unitary air conditioners to obtain voluntary certification of products that meet the quality, safety and performance specifications outlined by the Council.

The scope of the certification scheme applies to small, medium and large air conditioning equipment including Split Systems, Single Package Units, Condensing Units and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) Multi - Split Systems. The requirements of the conformity scheme include high quality, safety of operation, high energy efficiency, zero impact on the ozone layer and low power demand.
Products that meet the QCC certification scheme criteria are granted a certificate of conformity, permitting them to carry the Abu Dhabi Trustmark for Environmental Performance in product promotion. Daikin, a leading manufacturer of air-conditioning systems has become the first company to be awarded the certification of their products.

Mohammed Helal Al Balooshi, Director of Marketing & Communications at Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council said: “The launch of the Unitary Air Conditioners Certification Scheme comes as part of QCC’s priority to enable regulators and industry partners achieve high levels of quality and sustainability performance, as well as promoting a culture of quality in Abu Dhabi.”

“The number of villas and buildings being constructed in Abu Dhabi has been on continuous rise over the past decade to meet the surging population growth, which has spurred the demand for air conditioning systems – a major consumer of energy. We are confident the scheme will result in a significant amount of energy savings given the fact that cooling represents over 50% of the electricity consumption in the Emirate. Eventually, we anticipate the scheme to generate wider benefits to our national economy through energy conservation 30-50%,” Al Balooshi added.

Congratulating Daikin on receiving the certification, Al Balooshi stressed QCC’s commitment to facilitating the certification process of other companies towards enhancing the quality infrastructure in Abu Dhabi in line with global standards.

On this occasion Ryoji Sano, President of Daikin Middle East and Africa said “Daikin is proud to receive the Abu Dhabi Trustmark for Environmental Performance for its High Efficiency Inverter driven split system using the Low Global Warming Potential R32 refrigerant designed for the high ambient conditions in the region. We express our gratitude to QCC and support its leadership in prequalifying High Efficiency systems for Abu Dhabi’s villas and buildings”
The Unitary Air Conditioners Certification Scheme complements QCC’s ongoing efforts to promote the use of high efficiency air conditioning systems in Abu Dhabi. Prior to this scheme, QCC developed the Air/Water-cooled Chillers Certification Scheme that was launched in November 2014 following an extensive consultation process with key government and industry stakeholders.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. QCC’s mission is facilitated by empowering regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. QCC also sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that the products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
