Borouge highlights its leading role in development of plastic packaging industry

Abu Dhabi – MENA Herald: Borouge, a leading petrochemical company that provides innovative, value creating plastics solutions, demonstrated its portfolio of differentiated grades of polyolefins (polyethylene and polypropylene) for a variety of plastic packaging applications at the Gulf Packaging and Polymers Show (GPPS) being held in Abu Dhabi from 1-3 February 2016.

The exhibition, which brought together hundreds of local and regional plastic packaging professionals, manufacturers, experts and converters, has provided Borouge with a unique opportunity to showcase its latest plastics solutions for advanced packaging that create value to customers.

“The exhibition is an ideal platform for Borouge to showcase our latest polyolefin grades used for advanced flexible and rigid packaging applications,” said Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President Middle East Africa (MEAE), Borouge. “The event helps us reinforce our position as a leading provider of innovative and sustainable solutions that help address the different characteristics required for specific packaging applications based on our unique technologies.”

Showing its strong commitment to the packaging and polymers industry, Borouge aims to explore opportunities to leverage the growing polymers competence in the Middle East region that is witnessing a rapid growth in population and urbanisation. This has driven an increased demand for goods and services, and as a result, the packaging market will be growing as well to cater for the needs of both consumers and retailers, Al Suwaidi explained.

Market intelligence reported that polyethylene consumption in Middle East is forecasted to grow to 7.2 million tonnes per year in 2017, equivalent to an AAGR (Annual Accumulated Growth Rate) of 5.9%, which is higher than the global average of 4.9%.
“The increased demands on hygiene, safety and convenience, coupled with changing lifestyles and stringent industry regulations, mean that today more emphasis is placed on quality packaging materials than ever before. This is where Borouge brings value to the value chains as we offer a wide range of high quality polypropylene and polyethylene grades for flexible and rigid packaging applications based on our unique Borstar® and BNT technologies.”
Recently, Borouge has completed its latest expansion plant in Ruwais that increases the Company’s total production capacity to 4.5 million tonnes of polyolefins per year, with two new Borstar polyethylene plants, two new Borstar polypropylene plants as well as a low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant, capable to produce a number of products and combined solutions for packaging industry.

Borouge’s stand at the exhibition showcased a wide range of application samples that are made of Borouge’s innovative plastics solutions recognised with its economical processing, weight saving potential and enhanced properties. Borouge focuses on applications that benefit from high performance polyethylene and polypropylene in making co-extruded structures such as lamination, exclusive carrier bags, frozen and snack food packaging, shrink films and greenhouse films. Borouge also provides innovative plastics solutions for rigid plastic applications such as healthcare, boxes, trays, pallets, bottles and caps and closures.

Different speakers from the plastics industry shared knowledge during the exhibition on major topics such as innovations in packaging and sustainability, automation technologies in packaging, converter productivity and exploring the burgeoning converter sector.
