Dubai - MENA Herald: Comtec, a leading supplier of products and services to telecom operators and contractors in the GCC, has joined the growing list of British companies establishing a presence in Dubai to move closer to customers and expand to new markets. Dubai Investment Development Agency (Dubai FDI), an agency of the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai and the British Centres of Business (BCB) initiative of the UK Government worked together to bring Comtec to Dubai.

Established in the UK over 36 years ago, Comtec is a leading provider of telecom products, datacoms and audio-visual products and services in the Gulf region.

“A company like Comtec that has significant knowledge and experience of the GCC markets establishing a major foothold in Dubai speaks volumes of the unrivalled position of Dubai as an enabling hub,” commented Ibrahim Ahli, Director of Investment Promotion Division in Dubai FDI.

“Dubai’s connectivity within the Middle East and beyond to Africa, CIS and the Indian Subcontinent has increased in tandem with the growing consumer demand in these markets. More and more international businesses and investors are realising the unique growth environment and market access provided by Dubai,” added Ahli.

John Buck, Managing Director of Comtec said Dubai, with its entrepreneurial spirit and world-class communications and logistics infrastructure, was an obvious choice when the company decided to base its MENA (Middle East and North Africa) headquarters in a commercial hub in the region.

“We have two objectives for our new operation in Dubai – to better serve our customers in the UAE, such as Etisalat, and to establish our regional headquarters from which to support our existing and planned new office openings within the GCC,” added Buck. The company opened an office in Qatar five years ago to serve its local clients.

Expressing happiness over Comtec moving to Dubai, Susie Isaacson, Business Operations Manager of BCB, said the company is building on a long and successful track record in the region. “Comtec is now keen to put down long term roots in the UAE to ensure their business continues to grow and flourish across the Middle East.”

BCB, an initiative of UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) department of the UK Government, collaborated successfully with Dubai FDI to bring several UK businesses from diverse sectors to Dubai in 2014.
