Dubai South to Focus on Workers’ Happiness with New Staff Communities

Sunday 01 May 2016

Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai South has announced plans to launch the first phase of Sakany – a community concept built around employee happiness, well-being, and productivity.
Phase 1 of the initiative will comprise 1,140 spacious rooms in 10 buildings set for completion by June 2017. The units will be made available to companies in Dubai South and neighbouring developments that are keen to offer their staff quality accommodation in close proximity to their workplace. Upon completion of phase 1, the Sakany staff village will accommodate up to 6,000 employees.
His Excellency Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman, Dubai Aviation City Corporation, said: “The vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is to position Dubai as a city of happy, creative and empowered people. At Dubai South, our focus is to ensure we are aligned with this vision. We are confident we can achieve this alignment by developing the necessary framework and infrastructure to encourage employees to achieve a happy and engaged work-life balance through reduced commutes and increased accessibility to amenities - essential pre-requisites for both work and leisure.”
The staff accommodation units will be self-contained with central air conditioning, basic furniture, 24-hour security and CCTV, as well as complete facilities management services. The development will be clustered around a central community building containing a fitted kitchen and attached mess hall to serve three meals a day as well as provide takeaway meal options.
The proximity to amenities such as medical facilities, mosque, gym, supermarket, library, green spaces, recreational areas such as a sport courtyard, and ample parking spaces for buses and cars will ensure residents have access to multiple services vital for both work and leisure within walking or short driving distances. Adding to the convenience and accessibility will be an integrated RTA bus network that connects Sakany residents to Al Maktoum International Airport, as well as the wider city of Dubai. Once complete in 2020, Sakany will house an estimated 15,000 residents. The developments will meet Dubai South’s anticipated economic growth, as several 100,000 people are estimated to be employed in Dubai South and peripheral areas by 2025.
Mohammad Al Awadhi, Vice President of Real Estate at Dubai South, said: “The Sakany staff village not only represents accommodation for employees, but also seeks to deliver best-in-class infrastructure and services. We are creating a staff community that offers spacious living quarters in close proximity to essential services and amenities. This will, in turn, foster an active, engaged, and healthy workforce for maximum productivity.”
At Dubai South, companies are at the heart of an integrated ecosystem designed to provide seamless benefits and support in terms of land, office space, buildings, and industrial facilities within the city’s Free Economic Zone. The strategic location of Dubai South connects businesses to key global markets to enable significant savings in operational costs and time.
