Telecoms, Enterprises, and Public Sector to Drive Middle East’s World-Leading Internet of Things Market

Thursday 01 October 2015

Dubai - MENA Herald: Governments, telecoms, and enterprises will lead the Middle East region as one of the world’s fastest adopters of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in 2015, a key feature at GITEX Technology Week 2015, a global consultancy announced today.

In 2015, the Middle East’s combined IoT combined hardware and revenue is set to reach USD 1.95 billion, with growth outpacing the global average, according to Deloitte. The Middle East and Africa is set to post the world’s highest growth of cloud data traffic, increasing more than 8-fold from 30 exabytes in 2013 to 260 exabytes in 2018.

At GITEX Technology Week 2015, organizations can discover the latest IoT solutions that capture, manage, and analyse data for insights into customers and enterprises. Big Data and cloud solutions can help governments and telecoms to partner on integrating and automating citizen services - especially in the key vertical sectors of health, education, tourism, and utilities – and help organizations to enhance their operational efficiency.

Among a large portfolio of high-profile exhibitors at this year’s GITEX Technology Week is Meraas, a leading Dubai-based holding company, which will address their recent joint venture with AliCloud, Alibaba Group’s cloud computing arm, to set up a new enterprise for cloud services aimed at public and private organizations in the region.

“We aim to raise industry standards and provide state-of-the-art cloud solutions that contribute to translating the objectives of the visionary leadership of Dubai and the UAE, in line with Dubai Smart City and UAE Vision 2021 goals. GITEX Technology Week 2015 will be an ideal platform to showcase our offerings in cloud computing, digital consulting, system integration, custom solutions, entrepreneurship and training across industries,” said a Meraas spokesperson.

Demonstrating the opportunity for Big Data and cloud in the region, Gartner shows the public cloud services market in the Middle East and North Africa is set to increase by 17 percent in 2015, reaching USD 851 million.

“With the Internet of Things quickly picking up momentum in the Middle East, combined with an increasing number of connected devices, broadband services, and Smart City initiatives, Big Data generation is growing exponentially,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Exhibitions & Events Management, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

“As the region increasingly embraces digital transformation, GITEX Technology Week 2015 will host new opportunities for organizations to discover the latest cloud and Big Data solutions to embrace digitization, and become more agile, and have greater visibility across their operations and customer experiences,” added Trixie LohMirmand.
